Ive
had my Fuji 6800 FinePix for 3-months now. I took it on a three-week
trip to Hong Kong and Bali Indonesia. The camera has enough options
for you to explore your creative side. I was impressed with its
ability to take good pictures in almost complete darkness, although
when using the flash it could be somewhat more powerful, only good up
to 13.During this one trip I took over 550 great pictures and the
camera operated flawlessly. When I returned however the camera would
not power up, it was completely dead, and would also not run in its
provided cradle. I called customer support and they suggested that I
return it for repair. It had blown an internal fuse, and I had the
camera returned in less than 6-working days, and have had no other
problems. The software provided could be a little more comprehensive.
Photo manipulation especially for printing leaves much to be desired.
ACDSee, or Picture It are much better.

I've
used the camera for 2 weeks now with no technical problems. It was
very easy to use, even without reading the manual. At first, the
camera felt awkward to use, but after a couple of days with it, I not
only adapted to it, but also found that the camera ergonomic design is
really very good for one-hand operation (my compliments to FA
Porsche). I recently used it to shoot 113 pictures using a 128 MB
SmartMedia card on the highest picture quality setting (6 MPix).
Result? Those pictures that were able to use good ambient lighting
were outstanding. Those that used the built-in flash was also
excellent. All very sharp. Some shots that were too far away were
somewhat poor but was correctable using the bundled Adobe software.
One thing I am disappointed about the FinePix 6800 is that it does not
autofocus well in low lighting at all. But when you use the flash,
there is no problem. Everything you've read about the color of the
6800 is true - the colors are fantastic! I love all of the pictures
that come from this camera. The cradle is a great idea too. I also
used the motion picture option on the fly, which turned out to be
really handy when you need motion and sound over still pictures. Great
to have at weddings or parties! Another thing for your consideration -
the design of the camera is very blockish and unconventional, making
it very compact. I always owned conventional cameras with the lens
sticking out. I found that the 6800 design makes it very easy-to-carry
and keep conspicuous. Now I'm not sure I can go back to a conventional
camera! Another feature (user-configurable) that is really handy is
the Preview feature that allows you to see the image that you just
shot. If you like it, you can record it. If you don't, you can erase
it and reshoot it. One consequence of a digital camera shooting night
shots is the long open shutter time that makes blurry pictures. I was
able to use the self-timer to do the shooting for me. Just set the
camera down on a stable place, and then shoot the picture using the
self-timer. It gave me some great sharp night shots!

The Lowest Price is not always best !
When you buy a digital camera, the basic package almost always includes
extras such as a battery charger, lens cap, batteries, flash memory card, and software.
One of the more disreputable practices a dealer can engage in is called unbundling. These
dealers remove items from the package that are normally included in the price and
price them separately.
When purchasing
a camera you have three components of the price to consider - the camera price, postage and
handling, and taxes. Many dealers lower the price to make the camera more attractive, then
increase the postage and handling to boost their profits.
Hesitate before
accepting extended warranties. Every knowledgeable consumer expert says it's better to
gamble. Most of a company's profit is in the sale of these warranties so they press, and
press hard. Your job is to resist, and resist hard. The only thing to keep in mind is that
digital cameras can be horribly expensive to repair. If you want peace of mind, you may
want the warranty, even though it's probably overpriced. The cost of a repair can
approach, or even exceed, the original purchase price.
When you buy a
camera from a reputable dealer, you expect to be able to return it if you aren't
satisfied. Some dealers try to discourage this by requiring a restocking fee for returned
merchandise. This is always explained as a way to recover their costs of checking the
merchandise and restoring the packaging you may have opened.
Many dealers is
truly a false, deceptive and a total crook. Bait and switch tactics used. Does not sell
new merchandise and will ship used or refurbished goods without notifying customer. They then
try to charge a restock fee on top of their exobitant shipping fees to make a profit where
they could not on their goods. A try case of buyer beware.
