The elegantly designed Minolta DiMAGE F100 is constructed of aluminum and stainless steel. The cameras slim profile and compact body can easily slip into a pocket or small bag. The DiMAGE F100 is not only one of the lightest 4.0-megapixel digital camera with a built-in optical zoom in the world, it is also one of the smallest. With the lens retracted, the camera is 4.4 (W) x 2.1 (H) x 1.3 (D) in. The cameras grip follows the elegant design of the body without adding unnecessary bulk to the camera. The operation of the DiMAGE F100 is as impressive as the exterior design. I cannot say easily express how impressive this little dynamo is. I ordered online for less than $450 including shipping. Without so much as reading a manual I put the included lithium battery in, installed the included 16 meg Secure Digital card, turned the wheel to auto and was taking practice photos. It really is that easy for the novice camera user. You can grow with this camera; as you become familiar and adept at using the many auto features you can begin to use manual adjustments and modes to make pictures unaattainable with a point and shoot camera of any size. The lcd view screen is crystal clear. The shutter delay is very short( all digitals have a shutter delay). I would reccogmend this camera to the professional who wants to be able to take incredible pictures but doesn't want to or can't lug full SLR gear around. I wanted to buy a SLR type full size camera but after pondering for quite some time I realized that the perfect camera is the one you can take with you any where, the Minolta F100 is that camera. No other camera for any dollar ammount has so many features and quality of construction in such a small package, period. You will be impressed, especially if you have owned digital cameras in the past as I have. ( Well it was an HP 210, a toy for the most part, but have experience with SLR cameras as well as maual developing.) This camera begs to be carried anywhere.
My only advice is as follows: Those new to digital cameras need to learn that ALL digital cameras have shutter lag, learn it's timings and when to shoot, Buy a quality battery charger and a couple sets of 1600-1800 Mah Nimh batteries, a memory card of at leaste 64 MB, and purchase a small case and you are ready for a fun new world. Take it everywhere and experiment. Enjoy!

The Lowest Price is not always best !
When you buy a digital camera, the basic package almost always includes
extras such as a battery charger, lens cap, batteries, flash memory card, and software.
One of the more disreputable practices a dealer can engage in is called unbundling. These
dealers remove items from the package that are normally included in the price and
price them separately.
When purchasing
a camera you have three components of the price to consider - the camera price, postage and
handling, and taxes. Many dealers lower the price to make the camera more attractive, then
increase the postage and handling to boost their profits.
Hesitate before
accepting extended warranties. Every knowledgeable consumer expert says it's better to
gamble. Most of a company's profit is in the sale of these warranties so they press, and
press hard. Your job is to resist, and resist hard. The only thing to keep in mind is that
digital cameras can be horribly expensive to repair. If you want peace of mind, you may
want the warranty, even though it's probably overpriced. The cost of a repair can
approach, or even exceed, the original purchase price.
When you buy a
camera from a reputable dealer, you expect to be able to return it if you aren't
satisfied. Some dealers try to discourage this by requiring a restocking fee for returned
merchandise. This is always explained as a way to recover their costs of checking the
merchandise and restoring the packaging you may have opened.
Many dealers is
truly a false, deceptive and a total crook. Bait and switch tactics used. Does not sell
new merchandise and will ship used or refurbished goods without notifying customer. They then
try to charge a restock fee on top of their exobitant shipping fees to make a profit where
they could not on their goods. A try case of buyer beware.
