Nikon today unveiled three easy-to-use new Coolpix digital cameras designed expressly for everyday digital photographers who desire spectacular images, without relying on a computer to enhance or improve their shots. With new technology and convenience features incorporated into Coolpix compact digital cameras, beginning digital photography requires only three simple steps ? turn on the camera, frame the shot and press the shutter button. These three new cameras - the 4-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 4600, the 5.1-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 5600, and the 7.1-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 7600 ? are each designed to appeal to consumers as they experience digital photography in their everyday lives.
Coolpix 4600 - Mega-Fun, Simply Digital
The camera's menu is improved, now enabling the user to change or select functions through a text or icon rendered on the LCD monitor. Beside that it's good to see a Dutch menu in addition to the default language settings. The Help-function explains every menu function shortly but surely. The menu is brightly rendered on the 1.8-inch sized monitor. The step from 1.5-inch to a 1.8-inch size is a logical step looking at nowadays LCD monitors. A large monitor makes framing of images a lot easier and is so much more pleasant for reviewing photos. Another very important detail of the new Nikon Coolpix 4600 is the low consumption feature.
The Nikon 4600 is equipped with 4 effective Megapixel resolution which enables the camera to capture photo-realistic results. As can be expected from a Coolpix camera, also the Nikon Coolpix 4600 is equipped with a 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens. This allows users total freedom for creative versatile photography, from landscape to portrait and even to Macro photography, a typically fine Nikon quality, to shoot as close as 4cm from a subject.
The fast and user-friendly operation at which the user hardly has to adjust anything, distinguishes the Nikon Coolpix 4600 from other digital cameras. An example of one of these features is the D-Lighting function. This function can be activated for example in play back mode, to automatically improve a photo when too much backlighting or insufficient flash light is the case, in order to get a correct exposure as an end result. Nikon has more surprises for you in store. Just like the D-Lighting function also more attention is paid to the internal software of the camera. Nikon's advanced red-eye reduction is one typical example of this kind of software. This function recognizes the red-eye in most situations and automatically corrects this phenomenon. Another user-friendly feature is the failure warning when an unclear picture is taken. It warns the user when camera jitter caused a failure image.

The Nikon 4600 is equipped with a series of useful preset scenes. Four scenes are even equipped with a handy composition assistance. These preset scenes come in very helpful and prevent the user from thinking too much about how to adjust camera settings. Preset scenes are easy to use: simply select a scene that fits the subject best, like Sunset or Portrait, and have the camera selecting the optimum settings itself. Newly added is the so-called underwater mode. Emphasis is put on vivid colours and it's the ideal setting in combination with the Nikon WP-CP3 underwater housing. This underwater housing enables shooting during snorkelling or even deep sea diving. Sixteen preset scenes are available to make a photographer's life easier.
Creative photography is also possible for those who want to put there creative skills to action, you can choose from five different colour options, including sepia or black & white. The images are stored directly on the internal 14MB memory of the camera or on an external Secure Digital (SD) memory card. Besides taking still images the Nikon 4600 is also capable of recording movies. The camera can be connected to a television set to turn the camera into a multi media device. Printing is possible directly from the camera without interference of a pc enabled by PictBridge support. The camera is delivered with Nikon's own PictureProject software. This software is extremely user-friendly and offers a wide range of versatile functions.
