IntroductionMELVILLE, NY, FEBRUARY16, 2005 ? Nikon today unveiled three easy-to-use new Coolpix digital cameras designed expressly for everyday digital photographers who desire spectacular images, without relying on a computer to enhance or improve their shots. With new technology and convenience features incorporated into Coolpix compact digital cameras, beginning digital photography requires only three simple steps ? turn on the camera, frame the shot and press the shutter button. These three new cameras - the 4-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 4600, the 5.1-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 5600, and the 7.1-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 7600 ? are each designed to appeal to consumers as they experience digital photography in their everyday lives.
Coolpix 5600 - Ultra-Smart, Simply Digital Activating the camera shows a fast response, in fact the camera is ready to shoot when turning it on. The fully automatic programs like preset scenes and a newly developed Graphic User Interface (GUI) make the Nikon Coolpix 5600 a very user-friendly digital camera. The menu is well organized and allows the user to select a function through text or an icon. Very useful is the fact that a Dutch menu is also available. The Help-function explains every menu function shortly but surely. The menu is brightly rendered on the 1.8-inch sized monitor. A large monitor makes framing the images a lot easier and is a lot more enjoyable for reviewing photos with family and friends. Besides user-friendliness Nikon also pleasantly reduced the energy consumption of the Nikon 5600.
The new Nikon Coolpix 5600 features a CCD sensor with 5.1 effective Megapixel resolution. It enables the camera to take high-quality photo-realistic images. The Nikon 5600 is equipped with a 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens. A typical fine Nikon feature is the Macro function. Which of course is also found on the Nikon 5600; the camera is capable of focussing as close as 4cm from the subject.
Features that distinguish Nikon from most of its competitors are a number of functions that improve ease of use. An fine example of one of these features is the D-Lighting function. This function can be activated for example in play back mode, to automatically improve a photo when too much backlighting or insufficient flash light is the case, in order to get a correct exposure as an end result. Nikon has more surprises for you in store. Just like the D-Lighting function also more attention is paid to the internal software of the camera. Nikon's advanced red-eye reduction is one typical example of this kind of software. This function recognizes the red-eye in most situations and automatically corrects this phenomenon, a perfect demonstration of intelligent software! Another user-friendly feature is the failure warning when an unclear picture is taken. It warns the user when camera jitter caused a failure image.
Returning to a subject we spoke of before: the preset scenes. The Nikon Coolpix 5600 features 16 of these preset scenes, amongst them a new one: the Underwater recording mode. In this mode the beautiful colours from the underwater world are captured vividly and true-to-life. A mode like this wouldn't be of any use if you didn't have an underwater housing with it. Therefore Nikon provides you with an optional Nikon WP-CP3 underwater housing to use the Nikon 5600 during snorkelling of deep sea diving. The other preset scenes are the well-known ones like Landscape, Sunset, Action etc. Four scenes even feature a useful composition assistance which enables every photographer to take perfect compositions.
Images made by the Nikon Coolpix 5600 are stored on the 14MB internal memory of the camera or on a Secure Digital memory card. Besides still images the Nikon 5600 is also capable of recording movies with sound. The camera has three different movie settings and when the camera is connected to a television set, the end results can be shared on a large screen with family and friends. Printing is possible directly from the camera without interference of a pc enabled by PictBridge support. The camera is delivered with Nikon's own PictureProject software. This software is extremely user-friendly and offers a wide range of versatile functions.
