IntroductionMELVILLE, NY, FEBRUARY 16, 2005 ? If you are a photographer who likes to travel, and have a compact camera with you at all times?, Nikon has a two great solutions for you. Nikon today unveiled two versatile new compact Coolpix digital cameras that bring more quality features and more refined technology to step-up consumers. The 5.1-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 5900 and the 7.1-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 7900 combine state-of-the-art technology, image quality, and speed, with a unique all-metal design to give consumers what they truly desire in a digital camera. These sleek all-metal digital cameras feature state of the art digital technology, such as the first, big two-inch LCD screen in the Coolpix lineup and the new Face-priority AF feature, along with a sharp design that is perfect for the customer who values style along with substance.
Coolpix 7900 - Superior by Design The back of the Nikon 7900 is dominated by a large 2 inch TFT monitor. The high quality monitor offers a beautiful light and clear rendition. A larger monitor makes the menu visibly well-organized, framing is easier and images can be shared more easily with family and friends. The newly developed GUI (Graphic User Interface) makes navigating a joy; the user can select a setting through a text or an icon. The Nikon Coolpix 7900 is also equipped with the handy 'Help' button, the one we find on all the Coolpix cameras from the new series, which offers you a brief explanation from every function available in the menu. By the way, the Dutch user can enjoy the fact of the availability of a Dutch menu. Of course English is found as default setting.
The Nikon 7900 belongs to a higher class of cameras than the entry-level Coolpix digital camera. The camera delivers faster performance and offers a speed of 1.7fps with a resolution of 7 Megapixel. The Nikon Coolpix 7900 also offers high precision Multi-AF with a choice of 99 manually selectable focus fields, 5 choices for automatic selection of focus field and the benefit of the new Face priority AF function, which is easy to select when putting the camera in Portrait mode. Face priority AF ensures the user of a correct focus when taking portraits. The camera automatically detects a human face in the image and will focus on it automatically. Another feature that has to do with intelligent software is the D-Lighting function. This function can be activated for example in play back mode, to automatically improve a photo when too much backlighting or insufficient flash light is the case, in order to get a correct exposure as an end result. We also find the advanced red-eye reduction on the Nikon 7900, one more software solution, which automatically detects red eyes and corrects tem. Furthermore the renown and typical Nikon function, the BSS, helpful in similar situations. This function selects the best and clearest image from a series of images and stores it.
