The Nikon Coolpix 8400's 24mm-to-85mm lens (35mm equivalent) is the widest you'll find in a digital camera without interchangeable lenses. The 3.5X optical zoom and 4X digital zoom are adequate, though not impressive on an 8-megapixel camera. The 1.8-inch LCD swings out and rotates a full 180 degrees, but it's small for a camera in the 8400's price range. The Coolpix 8400 is intended as the direct successor to the five megapixel Coolpix 5400 which also featured a wide angle zoom lens, although not as wide as the 8400's impressive 24 mm equivalent.
